Double Retorts Barbados 2000 West Indies Rum Distillery 24Y
This rum is from the West Indies Rum Distillery (WIRD) in Barbados and is based on molasses. The rum has been distilled in a series of pot stills in June 2000 and was bottled in July 2024. This rum has been aged for the largest part continental in an old ex-Bourbon barrel that already has been used multiple times. This is a heavy WIRD pot still expression and is famous as called “Rockley Style”. Only a few from these rum’s have been bottled. Rockley refers to a long gone distillery from whom it was supposed that the still has been moved to WIRD. It is known that this still could not have been in use in 1986 and 2000 when these rare “Rockley Style” vintages have been produced. However the style of rum made by that distillery has been reproduced by WIRD. Probably it is a combination of distillations where their unique and famous “Vulcan” triple chambers still has been used as a wash still followed by a second distillation using their small pot still as spirit still. On other bottles from the same vintage also a column still is mentioned.
